Crow Works License 2.0

By accessing, using, modifying, or distributing this software (the “Software”), you agree to the following terms. This license applies to all software produced and distributed by Crow Works.

TL;DR

Use it freely, including in proprietary and commercial projects.
Credit Crow Works in your product (credits screen, About page, or docs).
Modify it however you like — privately, no strings attached.
If you redistribute modifications publicly, they must be open-sourced under this license.
Don't use the Crow Works name or logo to endorse your work without permission.

Free Use, Modification, and Distribution

You are granted a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free permission to use, modify, and distribute the Software, provided that: a) Any distribution of the Software, whether modified or unmodified, must include this full license text, or a prominent and accessible reference to it (e.g., a URL in documentation or a README file). b) Attribution to the original authors and Crow Works must be included in any copies or substantial portions of the Software. c) Any modifications to the Software must be clearly identified as such. You may not present a modified version as the original, unaltered Software.

Use in Proprietary and Closed-Source Works

You may use the Software - unmodified or as a dependency - to build and distribute proprietary or closed-source applications, games, or tools, provided that: a) Crow Works and the Software are credited in a visible location of your product, such as an in-game credits screen, an "About" section, or accompanying documentation. The credit must name the specific Crow Works software used (e.g., "Built with Raven Engine by Crow Works"). b) Your proprietary work does not itself constitute a distribution of the Software. Distributing the Software's source code or compiled libraries as a standalone product is subject to the redistribution terms in Section 3.

Redistribution of Modifications

If you redistribute a modified version of the Software - as source code, compiled binaries, or any other form - the following conditions apply: a) The modified version must be clearly labeled as a derivative of the original Software and must not be presented as an official release. b) The source code of your modifications must be made publicly available under this license, at the time of redistribution. Private or internal use of modifications does not trigger this requirement. c) The full text of this license, or a prominent reference to it, must accompany the redistribution.

Contributions

Contributions to the Software are welcomed and encouraged. By submitting a contribution (e.g., via pull request), you grant Crow Works and all recipients of the Software a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, modify, and distribute your contribution as part of the Software under this license. Contributions should aim to uphold the project's goals: performance, correctness, clarity, and minimal footprint. Contributions that do not meet project standards may be declined at the maintainers' discretion.

Prohibited Uses

The Software may not be used for any purpose that: a) Violates applicable laws or regulations. b) Infringes the intellectual property rights of others. c) Facilitates malicious, harmful, or exploitative software - including but not limited to malware, ransomware, spyware, or predatory monetization systems designed to exploit users. d) Promotes or enables illegal surveillance, harassment, or harm to individuals or groups. These restrictions apply regardless of technical framing or claimed intent.

Trademark and Identity

The name "Crow Works," its logos, and associated trademarks may not be used to endorse or promote derived works without explicit written permission from Crow Works. You may factually state that your software is built upon Crow Works software (as required by Section 2), but this does not constitute endorsement.

No Warranty, No Liability

The Software is provided "as is," without warranty of any kind - express or implied - including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or noninfringement. In no event shall the authors or copyright holders be liable for any claim, damages, or other liability, whether in contract, tort, or otherwise, arising from or in connection with the Software or its use. You assume full responsibility for any risks that arise from use or distribution of the Software.

License Versioning

Crow Works may publish revised versions of this license. A redistributed version of the Software may be used under the terms of the license version it was originally distributed with, or any later version published by Crow Works, at your option.

By using, distributing, or contributing to the Software, you acknowledge that you have read and understood these terms and agree to comply with them.
